Had a very enjoyable last day in Canada. Did an interview with Rue Morgue in the morning (one of the best horror magazines around -- check it out if you haven't already), then did a final school event. It was in an area which most authors don't go to, but I had a large audience (about 350), they were very enthusiastic, and it was a nice way to wrap up the tour. I definitely hope to come back to Canada in the not-too-distant future, so keep an eye on the Shanville Monthly for more info. After bidding farewell to my Canadian publicist,Charidy, I went to the airport and caught an overnight flight back to London. I got in at 06.30, went to my flat, then made the dreadful mistake of going to the Nickelodeon award ceremony ... |

| Kathryn Winstanley October 23, 2007 09:05 PM PDT Hi Darren:) Aw I'm glad to hear you had a good time in Canada! I hope you have a good, nice relax now after all the hard work:) Oh and thats terrible, All the trouble you went through to go there just to be treated with such disrespect, its just wasting you're time, you go there to watch the awards just to find out that they didn't do the book award anyway, its just terrible, you're a busy author the last thing you need is to be messed around, they should have informed you about it!... I'm terribly sorry to hear that Darren!... Take care, and I can't wait to hear from you again :) From you're huge fan Kathryn :) | ||
| Sarah McGovern October 22, 2007 11:52 PM PDT That is an apalling way to treat someone, let alone an author. I know you said that authors come bottom of the celebrity list, but still you should be treated with respect. Especially you, your books have gotten kids who aren't interested in reading or who were poor readers. I think your treatment was in very bad taste for Nickelodeon, especially as Channel 4 are at the moment running a programme about encouraging kids to read, Nick certainly aren't interested in that (probably because if kids read then their not watching TV, specifically Nick) I am apauled that they didn't have the common coutesy to let you know that the book category wasn't going to be done at the event, then you could have had more time with your fans in Canada. I hope you write a letter of complaint to them. | ||
